Chueap Leab, a Cambodian woman, migrated to Aranyaprathet District, Sa Kaeo province, with her elder sister at the age of 13 to earn a living for her family. Now 32 years old, she is married to a Thai man and they have two children together.
She recalled that when she was pregnant with her first child, she had not yet heard about the M-FUND project. She and her husband had to work hard to save money for antenatal care and delivery, hoping for a safe birth and the best possible medical care. They estimated the total cost to be around 15,000 THB, as she had no health insurance at the time.
In late 2019, she learned about the M-FUND through field staff who came to her community to promote the project. Without hesitation, she and her husband decided to join on 30 October 2019. At that time, she was already pregnant with her second child, hoping that the project would help ease the financial burden.
About six months after joining, she gave birth to her second child, with all medical expenses fully covered by M-FUND. She and her husband were extremely grateful and impressed, as there were months when they had almost no work and earned only about 300 THB per day to support the entire family.
Beyond caring for herself, she also encouraged her sister to enroll. Thanks to her recommendations, many migrant workers in her community have also joined M-FUND.
She concluded by saying, "Even if I do not need medical services in the future, I will try to keep my membership active. The monthly fee is a contribution to help others access healthcare when they are sick, a way of supporting fellow human beings. I hope that the M-FUND will continue to be with us for years to come."
