The disruption of funding support to aid and development from the US government in January 2025 have had a major negative impact on health and other services delivered to refugee populations living in temporary shelters along the Thai-Myanmar border.
As a result, Thai hospitals, health authorities, and partners in border areas have solicited DLP to implement M-FUND in some of the camps, namely Mae La in Tak province and Ban Mai Nai Soi and Ban Mae Surin in Mae Hong Son province. M-FUND teams are gradually developing activities for this specific new context, and over 500 refugees have already sought to enroll in the past few months.
In February 2026, M-FUND teams were given formal authorization from the Thai local security forces to operate in Mae La (the largest shelter along the border), and we have started to plan activities with the camp committee, zone leaders, and health volunteers.
